For the purposes of environmental protection policy and the expedient use of renewable and ecologically sustainable energy the Brenner Motorway has devised for service areas a development plan for the provision of natural gas and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).
NATURAL GAS
There are natural gas pumps located at the
Campogalliano East and Campogalliano West service areas on the A22.
In line with the works planned for the service areas a development plan for the provision of natural gas was produced which foresees the installation of twelve additional natural gas pumps in the following service areas: Isarco, Sciliar, Laimburg East and West, Paganella East and West, Nogaredo East and West, Adige East and West, and Povegliano East and West.
The application for connection to the natural gas pipeline has already been submitted to Snam Rete Gas: connections to the natural pipelines have already been set up in the service areas of Isarco, Sciliar, Laimburg East and West, Nogaredo East and West, and Adige East and West and the project approval processes for the installation of natural gas pumps are underway in keeping with the applicable legislation.
The technical regulatory process for service areas which are already connected to the Snam Rete Gas natural gas pipeline is already well advanced. The first service areas in which natural gas pumps will be commissioned are
Nogaredo East and
West (section Rovereto North and Rovereto South). Preparatory work for the installation of the new natural gas supply system has already begun at the Nogaredo East service area.
Service areas Trens (between Vipiteno and Bressanone) and Plose (between Bressanone and Chiusa) are currently not included in the redevelopment plan due to a lack of natural gas pipelines with high capacity and a too great distance.
Generally speaking, and if nothing intervenes, it is estimated that the first six of the twelve natural gas systems foreseen in the A22 feasibility study could be completed in 2013 and the remaining six in 2014.

LPG
LPG pumps are available at the following service areas on the A22: Paganella East and West; Adige West; Povegliano East and West; Campogalliano East and West. The grid development and implementation plan foresees the commissioning of six new natural gas pumps in the following service areas: Trens East and West, Plose East and West, and Laimburg East and West. The section of the Trens service area intended for the filling station will undergo complete refurbishment during the course of which a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) supply system will be installed; completion of the work is planned for summer 2013. It is also intended that – in addition to the construction of new LPG filling stations – the facilities for the supply of LPG will be repaired and modernised at the service areas where the construction of new natural gas distribution facilities is planned along the A22.
