Automated paypoints

SELF-SERVICE LANES WITH AUTOMATED PAYPOINTS - In January 2010 the Brenner Motorway introduced a kind of self-service system in order to make it easier for motorway users to pay the toll.
On some tollbooths of the A22 (the fully implemented project foresees 14 “self-service lanes”) there are now automated paypoints which allow users to pay the toll in an efficient and transparent way either in cash (notes of between 5 and 100 euros and all coins of 5 cent upwards are accepted), or with activated cards (Prepaid Viacard, current account Viacard, ATM card and credit card) via a device into which cash and cards may be inserted.
The automated paypoint is furnished with an interface which provides displays in Italian, German, English and French.
Before the transaction the user can simply key in the language which he wishes to use.

In the event of problems…
The automated paypoints have proven to be highly efficient in terms of operation. Nonetheless there may be special or rare instances on which some problem may occur. To assist customers in such cases, all automated paypoints are fitted with a telematic communication system which provides the user with assistance within the shortest possible space of time from a toll operator working on another lane of the same tollbooth. Problems which may occasionally arise include: The card does not work because of a momentary reading failure (card is not accepted or the scanner is defective), partially or completely insufficient change, payment method (bank note or card) is stuck in the scanner, or a user has failed to remove change.
The Brenner Motorway foresees suitable procedures for all situations to ensure that the transaction can be properly completed, and suitably completed forms are available for this purpose.
 
The administrative procedure in particular foresees that in the case of (partial or complete) failure to return change, a “credit note” will be issued, confirming that the holder has a credit which may be redeemed at one of the activated service centres on the A22 (Bressanone, Bolzano Sud, Trento Nord, Affi, Mantova Nord).
