Charging stations for electric vehicles

In view of the Plessi Museum's strategic location, the site now has fast charging stations for electric vehicles, eight for Tesla cars well as one multi-standard charging station. The multi-standard charging station, compatible with different makes of vehicle, is equipped with three different connectors and can charge two cars simultaneously. All of the stations can provide a 50% battery recharge in just 20 minutes; a complete recharge requires around an hour. The Tesla charging stations are located at the exit of the Affi motorway toll station.

The Plessi Museum can also be accessed by travellers from Brenner on the southbound carriageway via a pedestrian underpass.

A22 introduces electricity supply system for heavy vehicles at Sadobre for temperature controlled road transport

Autostrada del Brennero has installed five charging stations at the Sadobre lorry terminal, close to Vipiteno, to supply electricity to heavy vehicles with electric generators for temperature controlled road transport.

The project is part of the European programme to reduce the environmental and noise impact of the transport sector in the trans-European transport network (TEN-T).

At present most goods are refrigerated using diesel generators which, as well as continuously producing noise, also lead to atmospheric pollution in rest areas used by heavy goods vehicles. "With the introduction of the electric supply stations, the Sadobre lorry terminal will not only reduce CO2, NOx and fine particle emissions, it will also combat noise pollution in the area," said Walter Pardatscher, Managing Director of Autostrada del Brennero.

Using this innovative electricity supply system, installed by the Dutch company NomadPower under its own patent, once haulage companies or individual drivers have registered on the website they can access the network of NomadPower electricity connection points across Europe. Of the four points installed in Italy, two are located on the A22 at Trentino – Alto Adige: supply stations are located at the Sadobre parking area and also at the Trento logistics centre.

Drivers insert the cable from their vehicle's refrigeration unit into the connection point and activate the system using the NomadPower app on their mobile phone, or alternatively by phone call or text message. The charging station will provide electricity to the lorry for as long as necessary, until disconnected by the driver. At the end of the stopover the service manager and the driver will be informed of the amount of electricity used in kWh and the cost in euro via the app, by text message, internet or email. "Autostrada del Brennero will provide the service free of charge for the first six months," said the General Technical Director.

The five charging stations, each of which has two connection points, are connected to a central unit. Each central unit contains a modem, GPRS systems and smart meters. The meters provide real time monitoring of consumption and the system status, enabling immediate remote interventions in the event of malfunctions or faults, meaning that in most cases operators do not need to visit the sites.
