The Brenner Motorway defines itself as a “proximity motorway,” a reality that lives in close symbiosis with the territories it crosses, promoting opportunities for economic and social development while paying great attention to environmental protection. In this spirit, the Company is committed to transforming rest areas into genuine places of refreshment that enhance local identity, landscape, and culinary traditions, while also offering innovative services in line with progress and contemporary needs.
Service areas
Along the A22 there are 22 service areas: 11 in each direction, approximately 30 km apart and open 24 hours a day. The management of catering services and the supply of fuel and lubricants within the service areas was awarded through a public tender procedure carried out prior to the entry into force of the Transport Regulation Authority’s Resolutions No. 130/2022 and No. 1/2023. The related sub-concession contracts signed with the operators awarded through these procedures are still in force. At present, the sub-concession contracts do not include quality indicators in accordance with the provisions of the above-mentioned Resolutions. Regular monitoring and control activities are carried out to ensure compliance with the contractual obligations established in the sub-concession agreements, through both internal staff and external companies (mystery client and customer satisfaction checks). The service areas are undergoing major redevelopment works, which include not only the reorganization of interior spaces and the introduction of new services, but also the architectural enhancement of the facilities in harmony with the local context. The information sheets for each service area provide details of all available services, as well as the prices applied for oil and non-oil products.

The Plessi Museum
A giant glass box with a large timber and COR-TEN steel roof can be seen from the motorway near the Brenner Pass. This is the Plessi Museum, built on the foundations of a 20th century motorway custom house on Italy’s border with Austria. This is the first Italian museum built on a motorway. It was inaugurated in 2013 and extends over approximately 2,500 m2. The museum hosts a permanent exhibition showcasing the work of Fabrizio Plessi, one of the most important contemporary Italian artists. It features video installations, sculptures, and graphic artworks and paintings – as well as a spacious food hall with a cafe and store selling a vast range of typical South Tyrolean delicacies. The Plessi Museum was also designed to be a place where European values could be discussed: the venue has a conference hall equipped for summits as well as cultural and institutional events.

HGV parking areas
Autostrada del Brennero offers various types of rest areas for HGVs, allowing haulage drivers to comply with mandatory rest rules with an adequate degree of comfort (EC Reg. No. 561/2006, in force since 2007). Over the years, the Company has upgraded and improved these facilities. Some are located at the service areas (Paganella est, Paganella ovest, Campogalliano ovest), one is located at the Plessi Museum rest area and yet another (former Dogana ovest) is located a short distance away. The other five (Sadobre truck park, Brennero Casa Lupo, Firmian, Trento nord Interport, Rovereto sud) are dedicated areas designed to provide specific and diverse services for both drivers and HGVs. These include personal care services (toilets, showers, food, refreshment points with vending machines, laundry service), vehicle services (refuelling, de-icing, charging points for refrigerated trucks), security (lighting, CCTV surveillance), information and IT services (traffic information, weather, critical situations on special monitors) and general services (cashpoints).
