Advice for safe travel

Autostrada del Brennero prepares accurate traffic forecasts to allow the user to plan their journey better, checking the days and times of day in which they are more likely to find slowdowns or tailbacks.

Before starting any journey, the Company invites motorists to consult the traffic and weather forecasts, to check their
vehicle and the condition of their tires, to find out about the services present along the A22 and to memorize the
phone number of the CAU, which they can contact for any information whatsoever or in an emergency.



Before driving

  1. Check your vehicle: brakes, tyres and spare wheel, lights, oil, water and fuel
  2. Check all documents required to drive
  3. Planning: enquire about traffic and the weather forecast and provide yourself all relevant emergency numbers.
  4. Store your luggage securely in the car in such a way as it does not obstruct the driver’s view.
  5. Secure the child safety seats and fasten the seat belt
  6. Observe the speed limit and the safety distance
  7. Adjust your speed to the road conditions and visibility
  8. In case of an emergency (breakdown, illness, etc.) stop the car in a service area or lay-by and inform the breakdown service
  9. Do not drive if you are tired and take a break if you start to become tired
  10. Do not drink alcohol or use drugs before and whilst driving
  11. Never make a U-turn or reverse.

On the tollway it is further essential:

  • to respect the speed limits at all times, in view of the traffic and any roadworks
  • to reduce speed in the event of fog, rain, snow or ice
  • to carefully read all warnings published by the CAU on the variable message signs and to keep updated on the traffic situation via radio, web or the A22 App.
  • to pay particular attention to any vehicles that is slowing down or accelerating near to the entrances/exits of the tollgates or the service areas and to vehicles leaving the rest areas.
  • to stop at a service area at the first signs of fatigue.
