HGV parking areas
Autostrada del Brennero has different rest areas for HGVs to allow drivers to rest as regulated by the law (EC Regulation 561/2006, entered into force in 2007).
For years the company has been committed to improving and upgrading these areas.
Some of them are part of regular service areas (Paganella Est, Paganella Ovest, Campogalliano Ovest); one of them is located near the Plessi Museum; another is just a short distance away (ex dogana Ovest); the other five are in the Sadobre car park, Brennero Casa Lupo, Firmian, Trento Nord Interporto, Rovereto Sud and are exclusively for HGV drivers. Here, drivers can avail themselves of the following services: toilets, showers, food, refreshment area with vending machines, laundrette. They will also be able to use supply, de-icing, and power facilities for their refrigerator trucks. The areas feature lights and CCTV as well as other services – updates on traffic, the weather, accidents displayed on screens as well as cash dispensers.
To offer HGV drivers an ever-higher quality service, Autostrada del Brennero decided to participate, as coordinator, in the European CEF-T-2021-SAFEMOBGEN tender, submitting the PASS4CORE-ITA-2 project. The objective of the project is to develop a network of safe rest areas for HGVs along the Italian TEN-T road network, to be implemented according to the highest standards of safety, security, quality, connectivity and transparency, as defined by the MOVE/C1/2017-500 study on parking areas.
In particular, the Company’s objective is to certify the “Sadobre”, “Interporto di Trento Nord” and “Rovereto Sud” parking areas as “Safe & Secure”, in accordance with Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2022/1012 of 7 April 2022.
The Company, which obtained the “Silver Level” certification for Rovereto Sud in 2024, aims to obtain the “Bronze Level” for “Sadobre” and the “Silver Level” certification also for “Interporto di Trento Nord”. Each level corresponds to specific guarantees and services provided. The minimum mandatory requirements concern two main areas: security and services. The latter includes functioning toilets for men and women, with the cleaning schedule displayed; the availability of showers; the presence of waste bins; adequate road signage; the possibility of purchasing and consuming food and beverages 24/7 (restaurant or vending machines); free Wi-Fi; and the availability of electricity for personal use. The framework is completed by the display of clearly visible regulations showing emergency contact numbers. The security requirements include a range of measures aimed at controlling the perimeter, access points, exits and the parking area.
