Our ideas and values
Today, over its 314 km from the Brenner Pass to Modena, the A22 Motorway is an integral part of the everyday life and identity of the regions it crosses, serving millions of travellers every year.
Few remember when the only route along this corridor was State Road SS12 (the Abetone–Brenner route), with all its limitations, or stop to consider what Italy's economic, social and cultural development would have been without the A22 and its strategic link with Northern Europe. Yet memory is essential to appreciate the value of what we have today. For the A22, that memory takes us back to the post-war period, when the Trentino-Alto Adige/South Tyrol Region and the public institutions of the other provinces along the Brenner corridor launched a project of fundamental importance for the country's development. They pursued it with determination despite receiving only limited support from the State, committing financial resources, technical expertise and institutional effort to bring it to completion despite every obstacle.
