WASTE SEPARATION AND RECYCLING UNITS
30 April 2014
On Saturday 12 April 2014, two new technological waste separation and recycling units for the waste produced in the motorway service areas were inaugurated in the "Campogalliano ovest” and “Campogalliano est” motorway service areas of the Brenner Autobahn.
The new technological waste separation and recycling units were accomplished via the joint effort of Brennerautobahn AG, the Municipality of Campogalliano, the Province of Modena and Hera SpA responsible for managing the public waste collection service. Within the context of the joint project, Brennerautobahn AG executed the fixed infrastructures in each service area made up of a raised carriage ramp and all relative equipped facilities; electrical system for lighting purposes and supply of motive power, water supply system, sewage system, grease trap, signs, video surveillance. Hera SpA has provided for the purchase of dedicated waste containers allowing for the identification of the user-collector: manager of the food court, the service station operator, the authorised personnel of Brennerautobahn AG.
The system follows on from the installation in recent years by Brennerautobahn AG of recycling bins positioned in the parking areas, also extending the waste separation and recycling to all managers of bars, shops and restaurants within the service areas, currently allowing for a comprehensive separate waste collection. The following shall be collected separately: paper-cardboard, glass-cans, plastic, residual waste. The recovery of any recyclable fractions and residual waste minimisation shall be promoted via user identification and the weighing of residual waste
A TECHNOLOGICALLY ADVANCED COMPUTERISED SYSTEM in the Campogalliano est and ovest service areas
The new system will accommodate the waste collected separately in the service areas: in particular, the separate collection of organic materials, glass and cans, paper and plastic will be stored. The operators will be granted access to the units through recognition via magnetic stripe reader and access to the site will be monitored also via a video surveillance system based on fibre-optic communication.
The new structures equipped with a multilingual touch-screen will enable the operators to select the type of materials to be inserted. The material will be automatically weighed and all the information relative to the insertion (date, time, user, weight and material type) will be memorised.
Furthermore, the computerised system of the units is integrated with Hera's remote-controlled system and the filling level of the containers shall be constantly monitored. Upon reaching a precise filling threshold, an automatic message will be generated for Hera's operators on call who will provide for the emptying of the containers.
