Innovation and European projects

Autostrada del Brennero constantly invests in innovative technologies to improve safety and the quality of services, and to reduce the environmental and noise impact of the infrastructure. Autobrennero’s objective is clear: to create an increasingly sustainable motorway, with zero emissions and zero accidents. To achieve this goal, the company is pursuing two parallel and complementary strategies. On the one hand, it aims to expand the charging network for vehicles powered by green energy sources, such as electricity and hydrogen, thereby promoting cleaner and more sustainable mobility. On the other, it is investing in technological innovation through advanced systems for connected and autonomous driving, capable of increasing road safety, improving traffic management and offering increasingly efficient services to users.

Autostrada del Brennero also participates in numerous European projects dedicated to the development of automated driving and the intelligent management of heavy goods transport. The aim is to build a new model of mobility capable of combining the advantages of private transport with those of public transport, making traffic flow more efficient and reducing congestion, fuel consumption and emissions.

BrennerLec After Life

Smart speed for the environment

"BrennerLEC After Life" is the natural continuation of BrennerLEC, the project which ended in 2021 and which demonstrated that dynamic speed reduction achieves two goals: reducing harmful emissions and shortening travel times on days with intense traffic. For this reason, the partners of the initiative, Autostrada del Brennero with the Environmental Agencies of Trento and Bolzano, the University of Trento, Cisma and NOI Techpark Südtirol/Alto Adige, have decided to continue their collaboration even outside of the EU cofinanced programme. By extending the stretches subject to speed reduction, both for environmental and traffic management purposes, the strategic collaboration started in 2016 is to be maintained.

The aim is to continue developing the implemented technological system and continue monitoring the benefits associated with the traffic management measures, preparing an annual report on air quality near the main urban areas along the motorway. Further measures for the future will be considered on the basis of the results obtained.
